The Breeders’ Cup Festival has been created to support and ensure an exemplary Breeders’ Cup Week experience for visitors and residents alike. The goal is to create a week-long celebration, October 28 through November 3, 2018, featuring events and activities that can be enjoyed by many, leading up to one of the most important horse races of the year.
What began as a one day, 7-race event at Hollywood Park in 1984, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships has grown into a two-day, 14-race, $30 million extravaganza attracting the best horses, trainers, and owners from across the globe. It is the culmination of the Thoroughbred championship racing season in North America, and concludes with the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, which often determines the “Horse of the Year” title. While these two days have seen legends born, history made, and fortunes won, the greatest part is that the 35th Running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships is returning to Churchill Downs and Louisville, Kentucky, November 2-3, 2018.
The Breeders’ Cup is Thoroughbred racing’s “Super Bowl” and “World Series” combined into one, generating a $100 million global impact. More than 100,000 race fans will experience the event at Churchill Downs and millions will watch on NBC and NBC Sports Network during its live broadcast from Louisville.
